Kentucky's Last Stand

The state of Kentucky is doing its best to combat Compulsive Gambling. It's a good thing because they don't want their states 25,000 compulsive gamblers to multiply.

The coalition consists of a group of certified compulsive gambler counselors, various gaming organizations, and the states Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse and Council on Problem Gambling.

The state will be instituting the following things to help combat the losing battle:

  • Kentucky's is having it's "Responsible Gaming Education Week" for the fifth week in a row.
  • The distribution of about 40,000 "scratchers" with the slogan; "Play responsibly"
  • Horse Tracks and Ohio River Casinos will be receiving about 12,500 pens bearing the slogan.
  • 5,000 posters with two self help questions will be displayed practically everywhere from casinos to charitable bingo halls. The posters have the questions: "Have you ever felt the need to bet more and more money?" and "Have you ever had to lie to people important to you about how much you gambled?"
  • Mental-health centers around the state will be receiving a package of gambling prevention and awareness materials.
